TSE was commissioned in September 2021 to produce a series of short form documentary episodes, offering fans an unprecedented insight into the Sydney Kings team during the current NBL Season.
TSE pitched the concept to build the profile of the team, a particularly relevant goal in 2021-22 given the Kings squad has seen the retirement or departure of many of the high profile players who had created on-court success and also driven record attendances.
The new squad included a new coach, Buford, recruited from the US and a number of new players including highly regarded point-guard, Jailyn Adams, Next Star, Matur Maker & former Golden State Warriors player, Ian Clark. There was also anticipation that existing young stars, Xavier Cooks and DJ Vasiljevic would grow into leaders during what was certain to be a challenging, COVID impacted Season.
TSE videographers, Sam Tolhurst and Joel Cama, have led the project, immersing into the team environment to give fans an insight never offered by an NBL team.
Kings Chairman and TSE Founder, Paul Smith said,
“We trusted our boys to deliver a warts and all doco series, we gave them creative autonomy and told them we didn’t want to hide from the difficult moments the team would inevitably face during the year. There’s a moment in the locker room in Brisbane in Episode 2, when we have just been badly beaten, on the back of four or five losses and its raw but powerful film making. I’m proud we have taken the risk and seen this concept attract interest, with Kayo offering the episodes on their freebies platform.
From a TSE perspective it has showcased the capability of our videography and motion graphics team and we are excited to produce more short and long form content for clients in the future.”
