Paul is the founder and chairman of leading Australian sport and entertainment agency Total Sport and Entertainment and majority owner and chairman of National Basketball League franchise, the Sydney Kings, and Women’s National Basketball League franchise, the Sydney Flames.

In 1994, Smith left his role as Head of Commercial at the Australian PGA to form TSE, Australia’s first dedicated sponsorship leverage and activation company. Since then, TSE has worked with some of Australia’s biggest brands, sports rights holders and broadcasters and has been transformed into a multidimensional sport and events business.

After the Sydney Olympics, Smith recognised companies were looking for tangible ways to prove the results of their sponsorships investments and left for the United States with a dream of starting a new business venture.

In 2004 Repucom was born, a sports consulting firm which specialised in providing sponsorship analytics to clients. With Smith the founder and CEO, Repucom would go on to be a global enterprise with 1400 people in 23 offices in 14 countries. Its clients included the NFL, the NBA, FIFA and the English Premier League. In 2016 Smith and his investors sold Repucom to research giant Nielsen Holdings in a deal worth more than $US195 million.

He returned to Australia in 2017. He resumed working more directly with TSE, overseeing the company’s transformation with the acquisition of the KIND Agency and a part ownership of the Sydney Kings. TSE took full ownership of the prestige NBL franchise in 2019. In March 2020, TSE also purchased the WNBL’s Sydney Flames.

Paul was raised in the Illawarra region and now divides his time between Sydney and the South Coast. He is an extremely engaged, energised and passionate business leader who brings creativity, integrity and a personalised approach to business.

As the CEO of Total Sport and Entertainment (TSE) Paul is transforming a business with more than 20 years of heritage in sports sponsorship into Australia’s leading sport and entertainment agency.

At the NRL, Paul was the director of commercial and marketing for 11 years overseeing the delivery of some of the NRL’s biggest events such as the grand finals, the 2008 Rugby League World Cup, State of Origin and the launch of the Indigenous All Stars concept. In his role as commercial leader, he was responsible for all NRL revenue generation including broadcast, sponsorship, licensing, major events, stadium strategy & wagering partnerships.

Paul’s career began in public relations, he spent 10 years as the general manager of Australia’s leading sport and entertainment public relations and events consultancy, The Promotions Department from 1992-2012. The company led PR for the launch of Foxtel, managed tour publicity for many of the World’s biggest music artists, led public relations and media comms for the Australian Rugby League and worked on major sporting events including an NFL pre-season match played in Australia, WWE stadium events and the first Bledisloe Cup & State of Origin games played at the MCG.

After leaving the NRL in 2015 Paul formed the KIND Agency which specialised in the delivery of commercial and marketing services in the sport, media and entertainment industries.

In 2017, TSE acquired the KIND Agency and Paul was appointed as TSE CEO. As part of TSE’s growth it acquired a stake then full ownership of National Basketball League franchise the Sydney Kings and later the Women’s National Basketball League’s Sydney Flames.

TSE continues to work with some of Australia’s leading brands such as Foxtel, FOX Sports, Gatorade, NSWRL & Fujitsu. The company is leading marketing and event management for Australia’s number one boxing promoters, No Limit Boxing and The Racing League, the World’s first horse racing league.
